I never set out to write a Kingdom of Pacifica setting. In fact, I wanted to make one for the Kingdom of Apples once upon a time. We never seem to end up where we originally planned though. This setting is the summation of a year of gameplay and two years of development. The story behind Kingdom of Pacifica actually begins with my World of Darkness: Portland project (also based out of this website). My original intent was to create some sort of Play By E-Mail or Play By Post game set in Portland, Oregon and the surrounding areas and based on many of the original World of Darkness games (a game that never came to be, sorry Astra). That idea took a side seat to a Changeling the Dreaming Chronicle I soon started (and one that is still going strong to this day [November 02, 2007 for those of you playing along at home]). I loved it so much that I expanded on the setting, looking to the rest of the Kingdom of Pacifica so my Kithain PCs can explore the world a little and get to know their neighbors. What came to be is what you see here, the numerous Duchies, Fiefs and Domains of the Kithain of Pacifica. I drew a lot of inspiration from Kingdom of Willows (the Changeling setting for the American South) as well as Immortal Eyes: The Toybox (which gives us info on the city of San Francisco and the surrounding area). I also was mused by Digital Dreaming and the lush setting they created for their players. This setting is by no means complete. As long as I'm running my current chronicle I don't think this will be complete. So, I'll keep updating, keep showing you all what I have. I hope you like it.

Some Credit Where Credit is Due: A while back I started talking with "Kerry", the Changeling Storyteller at  Digital Dreaming: Seattle (though I doubt she'll even remember the conversation at this point). They are running a top notch game and have given me a lot of inspiration. It was Digital Dreaming that gave me the ambition to create a setting like this. We talked for a bit about my ambition of creating a Portland based RP setting and the things I liked about Digital Dreaming. I was given permission to use some of their storylines in my games, even though our game worlds couldn't co-exist. Sad, but true. So with that I borrowed a few concepts. I can hear the groans now, but rest assured my friends, I've done a lot to shape the single story I borrowed into something new. I just wanted to be honest with you all, that's it.

Geography of the Kingdom

The Kingdom of Pacifica encompasses the states of Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii. Queen Aeron ni Fiona rules from the arboreal Fae city of Caer Redwood deep within the Redwood forests of Northern California. Her rule is less than absolute and at times rather weak. The Queen's recent marriage to Duke Vogon ap Ailil has solidified  the Royal family's hold on the Kingdom as more and more Commoner rebels gather within Pacifica's boarders.

The Queen's lackluster rule has led to a number of domains breaking away from the typical Royalist model. Large tracks of land go without a Duke or Duchess to lead and a few are firmly in the hands of Anti-Royalist commoners. The Queen's Court is known for its oblivious hedonism  while the Duke's iron shadow creeps across the land. Far away from the Royal Court the lesser nobles and commoners manage as best as they can in the frigid light of their uncaring rulers. All around them the first snows of winter begin to fall as autumn seems to be coming to an end.

Composed of The Royal Barony of Muirwood, 12 recognized duchies, two unincorporated domains, two Commoner led domains and numerous smaller counties and baronies, the Kingdom of Pacifica is a land flooded with Kithain. During the 1969 Resurgence, this area became one of the most densely populated area for Kithain and remains so to this day. In fact, there are so many Kithain here that there are not enough domains for all of the Sidhe (and by that we mean to say that there are not enough "choice" locations for the Sidhe to rule over. Few, if any Sidhe wish to preside over the vast deserts of Southern California or the rugged terrain of the High Deserts in the middle parts of the Kingdom).

A few Commoner held domains exist to bring contrast to the stranglehold the Nobility has on the land. Allowed to technically exist by the Royalists, these domains remain a constant thorn in the side of the Nobility, even in these dark days.

The lands of Pacifica are far too vast for us to detail here in full. Storytellers who read this should take advantage of other resources on the topic of the Pacific Coast. Read about the history of the West, flip through a travel guide and exercise your license as a Dreamer to embellish the lands that comprise the Kingdom of Pacifica.
