Hey there, Tom here. I am the creator of World of Darkness: Portland, Our World of Darkness setting in Portland, Oregon. I started designing this setting about two years ago to prepare for a Werewolf: the Apocalypse game I was hosting for my group. It started out much differently than what you see here today. For starters, it was a Werewolf setting, not a general World of Darkness setting. I hadn’t really thought about adding in other Supernaturals to the setting back then. Over time, I wanted to branch out in this setting. My players liked it, they were familiar with the city (at least my version of it… we live 3,000 miles away from Portland, in Southern New Hampshire) and I, to be really honest, didn’t want to create another city. So, when I started to prepare for a Changeling: the Dreaming chronicle I simply used the location I had, with a few alterations. Eventually, I branched out. I began to go into details about the other critters that go bump in the night. I had toyed with some Vampire ideas during the Werewolf Chronicle, but I never delved deeply into the society of the Kindred. It took me nearly a year to get what I wanted from the Vampire setting. Vampire was my first love and I had to get this setting just right. I’m in early preparations for my next Chronicle which will be, ironically enough, a Vampire: the Masquerade game. With that setting pretty much solid, I have started working on the Magi of Portland. I’ve never really understood Mage: the Ascension, but with the help of my buddy Byll, I’m sure we’ll get it down good. That leaves poor, poor Wraith. I’ve been trying for a long time to think of what the land of the dead would be like in Portland, this long after the fall of Stygia. I’m really at a loss. It may be a while before my Necropolis Portland setting gets up and running, but check back often and you may catch a glimpse of one of the Restless Dead. I’ve also decided to dedicate a section to the Hunters of Portland, both Imbued and Mortal, but it’s also a low priority at this point, so it may be a little while before the Hunter’s Crusade is finished.
